Simulation in Evolutionary Economics (SIME)
Supported by the European Network of Excellence DIME
Strasbourg, France, March 30th to April 7th, 2006
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Deadline for application: February 25th, 2006
PURPOSE
- To offer an advanced European training aimed at doctoral students and young researchers interested in an approach of economic dynamics based on simulation techniques. Specific attention will be devoted to the LSD platform.
- To provide these researchers with a forum to exchange and confront views among themselves and with a team of recognised senior researchers.
- To provide junior researchers with a better understanding of the concepts and results of the various evolutionary modelling techniques of economic dynamics and technological change.
TARGET GROUP: Doctoral students and young researchers working on or in need of a simulation model (the group will be kept small to allow for maximum interactivity)
PROGRAMME: Two periods which last altogether 7 working days :
- First period (2 days): series of lectures/presentations on different forms of evolutionary modelling of economic dynamics and first presentation by participants of the simulation model they intend to work on. General introduction to the "LSD" platform
- Second period (5 days): proper workshop during which the students, under the supervision of the teaching team, will actually do some practical work. The participants should be able at the end of the week to carry out coherent simulation series and to show their ability to interpret the results, be they good or bad.
In addition the selected students are invited to participate in the three days of the DIMETIC session on "Evolutionary Modelling of technical Change and Economic Dynamics" as a broader introductory course.
ORGANISERS: Patrick LLERENA, BETA, Strasbourg, F; Marco VALENTE, University Aquila, I
Potential teaching staff: Esben Sloth ANDERSEN, IKE, Aalborg, DK ; Robin COWAN, MERIT, Maastricht, NL; Giovanni DOSI, LEM, Pisa, I; Koen FRENKEN, Utrecht University, NL; Nicolas JONARD, CREA, Paris, F; Franco MALERBA, CESPRI, Milan, I; Gerald SILVERBERG, MERIT, Maastricht, NL; Murat YILDIZOGLU, University of Bordeaux IV, F.
FEES and COSTS :
Fees : 400 euros for the March session (200 euros for participants from DIME partner institutions).
Accommodation and other local costs will be covered by the DIME budget.
Travel: participants are requested to look for local funds. If necessary they can apply for support from DIME; limited funds will be available and will be used primarily for applicants from isolated teams and institutions from new member states as well as for women.
Application procedure : Applications should be sent (by e-mail if possible and regular mail)
- Letter of motivation with CV
- Abstract of PhD topic, or overall current research area
- Simulation model project (rationale and basic features, to be designed and implemented during the course)
- Letter of support by the home supervisor
