Presentation

The European Manufacturing Survey (EMS) has been established in 2003 through the initiative of the Fraunhofer ISI with the aim to provide on a continuous basis, reliable, comprehensive and compatible data as regards to the modernisation and improvement of manufacturing at the European level.

The cross-country data collected every two years focuses on the implementation of new manufacturing technologies, the use of innovative organisational and managerial concepts as well as their impact on various performance indicators such as productivity, quality or flexibility of companies.

In 2003/2004, the first round of EMS has been conducted in nine European countries: Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey. The second round has been conduct in 2006/2007 with the additional participation of Finland, Greece, the Netherlands and Spain. In 2009 the survey has been conducted in 10 countries. Already 3572 companies have responded to the 2009 survey.

The French part of the survey is conducted by the BETA and is financed through the Associated European Laboratory on “Knowledge, Science and Innovation” established by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) on behalf of the BETA and by the Fraunhofer-Society on behalf of the Fraunhofer-ISI.
